Why Rugged Writer?
Well, here’s to the start of the next adventure. My name is Calvin Luhrsen and if you’re reading this, hopefully it will give some idea about what I’m trying to do with this. I’m starting Rugged Writer for a few reasons.
I enjoy writing
I enjoy business
I enjoy the outdoors
When I can tie all three of those things together while helping people at the same time, I’d say that’s a win. Creating written content that educates and inspires others to get outdoors is something that excites me about doing this. Whether that be hunting, fishing, hiking, etc… it doesn’t matter to me so long as it has a tie to the outdoors.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been spending tons of time outside. Typically it’s on fishing or hunting trips where my Dad and I are catching Brook Trout in Lake Superior, or hunting Mallards in North Dakota. Doing so has brought me a huge sense of appreciation for having the opportunity to spend time outdoors. It’s where I usually feel the most relaxed and at peace. There’s something about spending time in the fresh air, with nothing to do except think and focus on the task at hand. You don’t have to worry about the chores around the house, or the job that takes so much of your time, you only have to focus on the moment you’re in. It’s a pretty freeing feeling.
Now that I’m getting this whole blog and company thing started, my goal is pretty straightforward. I want to help outdoor companies with their written content so that they can reach more people and get more people enjoying the outdoors. I also want to provide awesome content of my own to people who spend time outside, giving great tips and tricks on fishing, hunting, places to hike, trails to bike, and whatever else fits the mold.
The plan now is to put out content on social media consistently, and write out at least one blog post per week. I’m open to writing about pretty much anything. Some weeks it may be highlighting some awesome places to go check out, other weeks it may be great products that I want to recommend. Either way, what’s important to me is providing value to readers like you.
If you’re associated with an outdoor company, here are the general issues I’m trying to come alongside and help you with.
You have an awesome product/service and want to get the word out about it
You don’t have time to write the various marketing pieces needed
You know a blog or email campaign would help grow your business, but just don’t know where to start
You don’t have the ability to make this a full time position just yet
Sound familiar?
That’s where I want to come in and help you out. You don’t need to do everything on your own. It might make more sense to trust someone who loves doing this kind of work and has helped grow 40+ small businesses over the past few years in various ways. It might make more sense to focus on the things you’re great at, and then have some time for fishing left over. The most valuable resource you have is time. Don’t waste it doing something you’re not fired up about doing. Especially if it’s for things like
Blog/Newsletter Writing
Product/Service Descriptions
Website Content
Email Campaigns
These are right in my wheelhouse and I’d love to talk with you about them soon.
If you’re not associated with an outdoor brand and are still interested in following along on this journey, that’s awesome too. Not all of my content is going to be focused on the business side of Rugged Writer. In fact, talking about the services will become the exception to the rule. I want to get some killer content out there for people who love spending time in the outdoors.
Either way, I’m happy you’re here reading this. I’m always open to suggestions on content that would be interesting to write about so don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know.
I truly believe that everyone needs some sort of connection with nature. That doesn’t mean you have to be fishing or hunting. It could mean that you get out and go on a walk each day. That counts. My job here is to draw attention to things like that to grow outdoor brands or inspire more people to give it a shot. By reading this you’re helping to support that mission, and I appreciate you for that. (Signing up for my blogs would also help out the cause a ton)
So there you have it, a pretty short and sweet intro to what the heck Rugged Writer is and why I’m doing it. If there is an outdoor company with words that go in front of customers, I want to be the one to write those words. Likewise, I want to have my own content to share with outdoor enthusiasts to educate and inspire. Whether you’re an interested brand, or a regular outdoorsman reading this, I’m always open to chatting about our experiences and seeing where value can be provided. Don’t hesitate to reach out through the website.
For today, I’m gonna leave it short and sweet. Catch you all next week!
